The Kuta System in Relationship Compatibility - Part one of nine on Kutas 1/9
 
Kutas are units that are used for judging traditional compatibility in marriage. There are 12 factors considered. The eight Kutas have Gunas or points given to them. The total Gunas are 32. At least 18 are required for basic compatibility. Tradition in different parts of India dictates which kuta factors are given more importance. I think we should check all of them as different factors deal with different areas of life. You can decide what is more important to you and place emphasis on that.

The Kuta system of compatibility is used to match two horoscopes to find the compatibility. It has a complicated set of rules that matches the charts on sexual, spiritual and emotional level. It is important to remember that we should not get too enamoured by high scores of compatibility. It is possible for us to have happy and fulfilled relationships even though the overall compatibility is low. Often less Kutas means two souls that have many issues to deal with in this life whereas high
Kutas indicates less issues as well as too idealistic an expectation from their
perfect partners.
I have noticed in my consultations that it is more likely for high compatibility relationships to break up whereas the lower score ones continue working on their karma together. I think to have good relationships, the role of the Moon is important that I have written in part one. Also you must have the right attitude and commitment. Some lagnas, specially the fixed ones are better are doing commitment that the others.
Remember all Kuta compatibility is done from a woman's point of view. Here happiness in marriage and relationships is paramount. If she is unhappy, the whole relationship will be unstable and unsteady.

Varna is the classification by caste. Varnas are spiritual divisions of man. They are often called castes but that is a social division and not understanding the true meaning of these spiritual divisions. In the Vedic age, from the birth chart explained the true inclination and temperament of a person and his life was guided towards it. Each of the signs had a particular spiritual quality that moved them towards that path of self-expression in the material life. These qualities are known as Varnas.
Varnas are corresponding to the Gunas (qualities) and the Karmas (actions). These are not divisions imposed by mankind but who you really are. The Varnas are four different directions available to the soul in its journey through life.

1. Brahmin- the seeker and teacher of knowledge of a spiritual nature is Sattvick in quality. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces
2. Kshatriya- the defenders, warriors,rulers, commanders, leaders of the nation are Rajasic quality. Aries, Leo and Sagittarius
3. Vaishya- Those who are attracted to the material life where self interested and ambition dominate- the professional person, the industrialists, wealth creators are of Rajasic and Tamasic quality. Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn
4. Shudra - the workers who are tamasic in nature. Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
Couples belonging to the same Varna are given one guna. The woman belonging to a higher Varna than the man is inauspicious . The man can marry in the higher varnas while a woman suffers as their temperaments do not match. This classification may seem arcane in the present times but what it suggested that if both natures was similar, then there will be least conflict. The women were considered more sensitive souls and therefore got more effected by dissimilar personalities. Aries Lagna is warrior by nature and will find it difficult to fulfill the needs of the vaishya, who are the businessmen.

Study the female compatibility from left to right and the male from top to bottom.

Comparing male Pisces lagna with female with Aquarius Lagna. Pisces in Brahmin and Aquarius is Shudra. The man will get full kuta compatibility to the women but as we are studying the compatibility from the woman's persepctive, there would be no points scored for this compatibility.
