Celebrations as Jupiter moves into Aquarius on 19 December - A new light shines

December is a very busy month for planets. The main joyous event is the end of debilitation of Jupiter in Capricorn on 19 December when Jupiter moves into Aquarius. Good news for Sagittarius and Pisces. The day Jupiter moves into a new sign  is usually celebrated as all the millions of Vedic Deities come down to earth to purify the waters of one of the 12 twelve sacred rivers of India. This is connected to the myth of Pushkara who had the ability to purify the waters. Brihaspati ( Jupiter) wanted him to stay down on earth so that the purity of Water should remain always. But Pushkara refused as he had a boon to live with Brahma. Brahma decided to come down on earth to be with Pushkara and this happens whenever Jupiter changes signs making that period a very special day. The river that gets purified is the Indus. I have written two articles about it. Click here to read Pushkara I and Pushkara II. The transit of Jupiter in Aquarius is one long festival as Kumbha Mela is celebrated at the banks of four Major rivers in India. This year the center of the Kumbha celebrations will be the holy city of Haridwar and the banks of the sacred Ganges. I will be writing about the Kumbha mela Festival in the next month's newsletter.

Mars turns retrograde on 20th December 2010 and remains so till it turns direct on 11 March 2010. As it turns retrograde, this cancels the debilitation of Mars and is good news for Aries and Scorpio Ascendants. All should be careful around the 20th when Mars is turning from direct to retrograde. It can slow down life and make for a frustrating day. Mars's long debilitation has been very negative on Defense forces with last month's tragic incident at Fort Hood Army base, the breach of security with the party crashers in the White house., the extra deployment of troops to Afghanistan by US to shore up it defense forces. Mars debilitation is a warning to shore up defenses as the Mars energy of defense is very weak at the moment and all countries and their security is in need of sorting out. So many incidences are coming to light. But this should improve as Mars goes retrograde, but this should not be seen as ignoring this problem as when Mars goes direct- those who have not plugged the holes in their defense system may find themselves tested. In personal chart, Mars's weakness means health, lack of energy and vitality, lack of confidence, wasting of resources- depending on your ascendant. It is important for Aries and Scorpio to continue with being cautious while enjoying the change that retrograde Mars brings.

Mercury conjoins Rahu and turns retrograde on 26 December. This is a rare conjunction of Rahu and Mercury as usually the conjunction lasts one day but as Mercury turns retrograde on the day it conjuncts Rahu and Rahu's usual motion is retrograde, they will remain together for 5 days from 26th to 31 December. The conjunction takes places in Sagittarius. Also Mercury Retrograde ends on the eclipse of 14 January. So the retrograde of Mercury 25 Dec 2009 to 14 Jan 2010 is extremely important. As with the usual problems it brings with communication, travel, this will also reveal issues connected with religious views, spirituality and can hinder in our personal development. I have not watched a long conjunction of Rahu Mercury before- so this may also reveal more to me. It is best to keep cautious during the conjunction and as Mercury rules the intellect for all of us- our thinking may be influenced by the shadowy Rahu and therefore we need to keep in realistic and not allow our fears and anxiety to dictate our future. Mercury ruled signs Gemini and Virgo will feel it the most as Mercury is their lagna lord. It is not a good idea to make decisions during this conjunction. Gemini will experience this contact in their 7th house of relationships. There may be issues within relationships that need to be dealt with immediately. Something valuable will be revealed to them, it may not be easy to deal with but essential part of their future. Virgo lagna will experience this in their 4th house connected to home, happiness and mother. They may feel unsettled and unsure and worry about what the future can bring.

Jupiter in Aquarius 19 December 2010 to 1 May 2010 and 1 November to 6 December 2011

Jupiter's transit in Aquarius is also connected to the Kumbha melas which celebrates the finding of the Nectar of immortality during the churning of the ocean of milk. It was when Jupiter was in Capricorn that the darkness became complete and Brihaspati advised the gods to churn the ocean of milk in order to find the nectar of immortality. The nectar was found when Jupiter moved into Aquarius and since that moment in Ancient history, Kumbha mela is celebrated at four important river banks of India. Taking a dip in the holy waters of the sacred rivers during the Kumbha transit will wash away the sins of our past lives. There are special days connected to taking the holy dip- these times are known as Pushkar.  I will be writing in detail about the Kumbha Mela and its mythology and astrological connection next month. The first time to take the holy dip is on 14 January 2010 and the most sacred of all will be around Vishakhi (14 April) and Sun's ingress into Aries.

Jupiter's transit into Aquarius is good news for Sagittarius and Pisces  as well as the rest of the signs. Jupiter in Capricorn kept us cautious and did not allow us to feel good. Jupiter in Aquarius shows that the world is now at the threshold of being freed from the restrictions of the recession and the gloom that has enveloped the world since the financial crisis broke. Our role is not to abuse this gift we are getting and not make the same mistakes again. For Sagittarius, Jupiter will move into the 3rd house. 3rd house is connected to courage- here it means courage to take the right decisions to move ahead in life ethically and to use the gift we have been blessed with in the right way. Pisces will have Jupiter transiting in the 12th house. for most 12th house is the house of losses and expenses, but for Pisces it will be about finding moksha or self realisation- using our efforts in a good way- focusing on non profit element. Giving to others without expection of rewards. This does not mean Pisces Ascendants will not get rewards but that they should not be focusing their life in an effort to make it profitable.

One of the amazing aspects of this transit it that there is no negative conjunctions with Jupiter during this transit. Therefore Jupiter in Aquarius bring healing and a renewed trust in life. Jupiter does not even turn retrograde in this transit. There will be re-energising of our souls.

Jupiter will retrograde back again in Aquarius on 1 Nov for a short stay till 6 Dec 2010.

To watch for

Eclipse of 14 January 2010 - this is on Makar Sankranti and ingress of Sun into Capricorn and will have important effect on world issues.
