The Kuta System in Relationship Compatibility - Part five of nine on Kutas 5/9

Gana Kuta - Temperament and Nature Guna 6
Gana means a tribe or multitude and in this instance it means the tribe of humans. They are classified under three headings - Devas(Gods), Nara (humans) and Rakshasas(demons). Gods are kind, Humans imperfect mostly trying to fulfill their ambitions whereas demons we only concerned with their own needs, never caring for others. humans tend to move between godliness and demonic behaviour. These sections also reflected the temperament and nature. Gods were soft and sensitive. Demon ambitious, rough and ready. Humans can be both, struggling with their weaknesses and moving between fine and harsh natures. In a perfect world, these sections of tribes remained among themselves- married each other and created their children and followed the rules.
Jyotish complicates this system as the individual as not born according to their classification. Nakshatras are classified into three groups of gods, human’s, and demons. Gods reflect the guna of Sattva, humans of Rajas and Demons of Tamas. The gods are steady, Humans dynamic and demons sluggish. Sattvik people are calm, settled, puritan and followers of dharma. Rajasic people are active, ambitious, searching for answers inlife. they can be both godly and demonic- this is why they relate to human qualities. Demonic people are also highly intelligent. they will be self serving, ambitious and agressive.
In this compatibility we have to focus on the temprement of the gods, humans and demons. As conflicting nature and temperament of these differing sections are incompatible. We understand the temperament of an individual from the natal Moon nakshatra.

Each birth chart reflects one of these classification in dominance from the position of the Moon Nakshatra. For people to be truly compatible, they should chose a partner who reflects the similar personality as them. So gods must relate to gods, humans to humans and demons to demons.
I personally feel that we have to study these classifications on a deeper level. just the moon nakshatra would not give enough clues. but these different types of nakshatras when they get together with those out of their classifications, they have to learn to relate. if the partner is a sensitive sattvik, then they can be emotionally disturbed by the strong and assertive Tamasic. this kuta can also say of how the mind is. The sattvik usually are at peace with hemselvews, rajas are forever searching for peace of mind and answers from the other world, so they can disturd the peace of the sattvik. similarly rajas may not understand the peace loving and calm Sattvik and be forever disturbing their peace.
to understand this gana compatibility we should not just watch number of this compatibility but truly understand how are differing temperaments and natures are foreign to our partners. while we should not totally change the quality of our nature, we can make necessary adjustments that help in long term happiness.
Devas are the highest group, Nara second and rakshasa the third. There is one exception to this rule. Men can marry or relate to women from the lower groups from themselves whereas women find this more difficult. I am not sure how true this is in the present.

if your Moon is in Ashwini nakshatra- then the gana is deva and you want to marry Chitra nakshatra whose gana is rakshasa, then you will only get 1 out 0f 6 guna for this comatibility. your temperaments are not matching. this would means that you have to be concerned about each others sensibilities.
